Guide to Choosing Your Carpet

The Carpet Creations team have got together to give you these invaluable tips that we hope will help you to choose your perfect carpet.

1) Consider where the carpet is going to be fitted. You need to choose a carpet that is most suited to the room. This will help improve the carpets life and performance. For heavy traffic areas such as the hall, stairs and landing you’ll need a hardwearing carpet. Look for a Quality mark that is at least Heavy Domestic or Extra Heavy Domestic.

2) Get a sample, take it home and look at it in the room where you plan to fit it. You can then see it in your own natural light. We are always happy to loan you our samples.

3) Buy new underlay. The benefits of buying new underlay are endless. It will prolong the life of your carpet by up to 40%. Buy the best underlay you can afford and you will maximise the look, feel, insulation and wear-ability of your carpet.

4) Always, always, always have your room measured professionally and your carpet fitted by a specialist. Trying to cut cost by doing it yourself could cost you a lot more in the long run!

5) Do you have pets? If so you may be best to steer clear of loop pile carpets which may pull with your pet’s claws.

6) Remember that as a general rule, the more luxurious your carpet, the more care it will need to maintain it.

7) Are there any particular fabrics or existing décor to be matched? What are your future decorating plans? Remember to choose the carpet first and install it last!

8) How long do you reasonably expect your new carpet to last? Consider whether your carpet is just a ‘quick fix’ or a long term purchase.

9) How much do you want to spend? When setting your budget don’t forget to consider the cost of fitting, underlay and other materials such as door grippers.
